Engineered flooring (multi-lay hardwood engineer floor board)

Commonly known as Floating Floors, Engineered floors are generally a pre-finished, timber veneer on a plywood base and laid over an underlay. Most have a veneer of around 3-4mm thick which is re-sandable. Engineered floors can usually be installed as a fixed floor over concrete or plywood as long as the surface is flat and dry.

They are highly engineered and designed to be installed quickly and with minimum disruption to your family and lifestyle.

Engineered flooring is composed of multiple layers of veneered timber glued together in a cross-grained lamination that is designed to counteract the natural tendency of wood to expand and contract when faced with changes in temperature and moisture. Firstly, a layer of moisture barrier is laid on the ground, followed by a layer of underlay then timber. It is most commonly used for apartments or units, where floors are situated on a higher level. Each layer of veneered timber acts as a sound barrier, thus minimizing noise and disturbances.

At Wonderful Floor, our selection of pre-finished engineered floating floors features a unique moisture film barrier (registered trade mark) that will slow down the moisture effect by approximately ten fold.

Like any other timber floor, a gap of approximately 10mm should be allowed between the wall and floor to allow for expansion.

Pre-finished (coated) solid hardwood

Our tongue and groove hardwood includes both Australian and imported timber of the highest quality.
Our pre-finished hardwood species are:

+ Category One

+ Category Two

Pre-finished hardwood provides a great alternative to the traditional timber flooring. The advantage that pre-finished hardwood has over unfinished hardwood is that it offers a much cleaner, clearer finish than a floor finished in your home. Because the wood is finished in carefully controlled factory conditions, it does not have the dust, dirt and other particles that are visible in almost any floor that's finished on site. This in effect will lower the cost of labour.

GRADE

SELECT
For a clean modern appearance only obtained by selecting the boards with a limited variation in natural characteristics, whilst exposing the rich colours, tones and textures that distinguishes the grain patterns of the timber. This grade limits the inclusion of many conspicuous natural features.

STANDARD
Distinguished by the natural features such as gum veins, insect markings and knots, the standard grade gives timber floors a unique character that is individual to each installation. The colour, tone and texture of the timber may vary slightly.

COATING

The majority of our hardwoods have been finished with the German Klumpp and Treffert water base coating, recognised in our industry as a benchmark for both excellence and environmental awareness.

The German Klumpp UV coating does not contain any dangerous substances, preservatives or additives. Nor do they contain any pesticides, fungicides, formaldehyde or asbestos.

A minor selection of our products are coated with German Osmo Oil, which is an engineered finish made with plant oils and waxes. This remarkable finish offers excellent renew-ability with a unique lustrous finish. Instead of coating the floor with a film, as polyurethane does, these finishes penetrate into wood fibres and protect from within.
